Harold and the Purple Crayon is a 2024 live-action/animated fantasy comedy film directed by Carlos Saldanha in his live-action directorial debut. Based on the beloved 1955 children's book by Crockett Johnson.

My job
I was in charge of setting up the Toon Boom Harmony files so that the compositing team can create the animated sequences shading through a proprietary software called “Pantheon”, within Nuke. This process allows for procedural shading of the characters using realistic shadows that “track” each part of the 2D characters as they move in 3D space. In order to achieve this, each part of the character needs to be separated into sections with solid colors called “Color Mattes”, which are then rendered in separate passes. My task involved setting these character color mattes, as well as to secure the quality of the clean-ups made by the animation team, so that they were ready for compositing.
Synopsis
After growing up inside his book, Harold uses his magical purple crayon to step into the physical world. He embarks on an adventure to find his missing narrator but must protect the crayon when its unlimited power falls into the wrong hands.
